First, you can get into better physical condition. There is more physical activity in skateboarding than you might think. Simply having strong legs is not going to get it done for you. You see, skateboarding uses all of your muscles to keep you in balance and stable, and that’s just for moving in a straight line, too. So when you want to turn, just shift your weight the right way and maintain your balance.
However, it doesn’t mean you should lean completely with all your weight to the back/front. What you want to do is shift from flat-footed to either your heels or the ball of your feet. There are two basic stances in skateboarding: Regular and Goofy. For the Regular skate stance you’ll want the left foot forward, and the right foot in the back. For the Goofy – just do the opposite! You can do four basic push-off techniques. Regular (use your right foot to push), Mongo Regular: push with your front (right) foot, Goofy (use your left foot), and Mongo Goofy: push with your front (left) foot. In time you’ll decide what’s best depending how you feel about it. You’ll notice some differences between skateboarders in their stances, etc. Just takes time to figure out what works best for you.
